BREAKING NEWS: Cape Town International Jazz Festival scoops two top awards this week

February 12, 2016

Cape Town, 11 February 2016 – It’s been a bumper week for the Cape Town International Festival (CTIJF), with the announcement of two separate awards acknowledging its status as one of the best festivals in the world, including being Cape Town’s number one.
Following furious voting for the top festivals on the planet, ‘Africa’s Grandest Gathering’ is one of 30 new best festivals in the world.  Fest300 2016 World’s Best Festivals List is an annual crowd sourcing campaign run in November each year.  “This Best Fest Quest saw the largest global participation ever with the 30 new entries coming from 11 different countries” commented the organisers.
Of the CTIJF, Fest300’s reviewer, Chip Conley said: “This is on my bucket list. Cape Town in the early fall…….a visionary producer who attracts a diverse, thoughtful, passionate crowd. This annual event defines a "feel-good festival.
“Mixing local musicians who are ready to breakout with international stars, there's a friendly flavour to this festival and it's one of the favourite music events for celebrated performers to visit. Part of the reason for this flavour is there's a popular free community concert that launches the festival in the heart of Cape Town so you truly do feel connected to your environs. The festival is also affordable enough to attract a cross-section of locals. Truly, if you want to do an African festival, this ought to be at the top of your list.”
Closer to home, the CTIJF has also been voted the Number One favourite festival in Cape Town by OfLocal. The site regularly compiles the top ten (of everything) in South Africa and in the 2015 voting season over 50 000 people cast their ballot for their best festival.
Billy Domingo, the CTIJF’s Festival Director gratefully acknowledged the accolades saying:  “espAfrika is humbled by the recognition.  The CTIJF is 'Africa's Grandest Gathering,' because of the public support it receives at home and internationally, and for that we would like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to vote. We sincerely appreciate both acknowledgements and thank OfLocal and Fest300 for their consideration.”
With the biggest trend in festivals being immersive and adventurous affairs, it is gratifying to know that a jazz-focused event is considered one of the world’s greatest events and adventures.
