Duotone 2009

The Jazz Photography exhibition has become a fixture of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival now celebrating its 10th year anniversary. The exhibition features photographs of the past and documents the emergence and growth of global jazz popularity.

Duotone, as always, promises to be an enthusiastic entrée to a weekend celebrating jazz as well as jazz - influenced music, capturing the mood and emotion from both sides of the lens.

Exhibitions have in the past included South African photographers Alf Khumalo, Mike Mzileni, Basil Breakey, Fanie Jason, George Hallett, Cedric Nunn, Ranjith Kelly, as well as International photographers William Ellis, Rico D’Rozaro, Herman Leonard and Uli Pschewoschny.

This year celebrates the life and work of one of South Africa and Africa’s true greats, Miriam ‘Mama Afrika’ Makeba. Through her indomitable spirit she was able to inspire a host of musicians as well as the ordinary citizenry.

We hope you will be able to appreciate and discover her through the eyes of great jazz photographers.
